CHAMAECYPARIS (Continued)
lawsoniana ´Van Pelts Blue´
____ Similar to ´Columnaris´, though with a much more intensive
blue-coloured tone - a promising, new cultivar. H, R, S, Zone 5b.
lawsoniana ´White Spot´
____ A loosely-branched, up to 5 m tall, column-like growing cultivar
with horizontally growing slender branches and slightly overhanging
shoot ends; parts of foliage are either white or with tinges
of white, the creamy white leaves at shoot break turning green in
summer - a very vivid-growing cultivar. S. Zone 6a.
nootkatensis ´Pendula´ - Weeping Nootka Cypress
____ An erect-growing, up to 15 m tall pendulous cultivar with overhanging
shoot ends, branches that tend to slant downwards,
and very long, vertically hanging green shoots - hardly any other
chamaecyparis grows to such marvellous form as this cultivar.
S, St. Zone 5a.
obtusa ´Drath´
____ A new, upright and medium-fast-growing, absolutely hardy cultivar
of the „Hinoki“ group, with a loosely and slenderly coneshaped
growing habit; shoots and twigs are formed similar to
those of ´Lycopodioides´, the thick and short foliage are arranged
scale-like around the shoots, strikingly fresh green and remain
true in colour even over the winter - a presently unique
dwarf conifer, suitable to be used in varied areas. K, Z. Zone 5a.
obtusa ´Nana Gracilis´
____ A well-known and popular dwarf cultivar, with an irregular and
slow growing habit, reaching only 2 to 3 m tall when older; sprigs
and twigs are arranged in a very unique way, twisted like an oyster
shell or cone-like; foliage are fresh green - a very decorative
dwarf cultivar even when young, suitable for graveyard planting,
rock gardens and planting in troughs. K, Z. Zone 5a.
pisifera ´Boulevard´
____ A very slow-growing cultivar, though reaching over 5 m tall when
older, with a narrow to broad, cone-shaped growing habit and
densely branched; foliage striking and distinct silvery blue. R,
S. Zone 6a.
