____ A native tree, around 10 to 30 m tall; bark at first brown turning
greyish-white later; branches are taut, broom-like, pointed upwards
and never pendulous. S. Zone 1.
utilis (= bhojpathra) - Himalayan Birch
____ Up to 20 m tall tree; bark light grey to shiny silver, peeling into
papery flakes; leaves are 8 cm long turning golden yellow in
autumn. S. Zone 7b.
utilis ´Doorenbos´ (= utilis, jacquemontii) - White Barked Himalayan Birch
____ Up to 20 m tall tree with dark green foliage and stunning trunk
where even young birches are dazzling white in colour; bark
white, peeling off in fine shreds - definitely the most beautiful
