____ Another very interesting cultivar arising out of the Higher Federal
Learning and Research Institute Vienna- Schönbrunn (Höheren
Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt Wien-Schönbrunn). Similar to
‘Jolico’, with large, bright red, slightly pear-liked fruits and the
sweetest taste amongst all cultivars. A healthy and robust plant
with a high ornamental and economic value, suitable for crop

officinalis - Japanese Cornelian Cherry
____ A shrub or small tree, similar to C. mas with an attractive bark
that peels off into large sheets; leaves oval to elliptic, 5 to 12 cm
long, dark green and shiny above, autumn colours lovely light
bronze-red; flowers appearing in February-March, bright yellow,
borne in 2 cm wide, loose umbels; fruits scarlet red, 1.5 cm long
- a lovely plant that flowers about 1 to 2 weeks before C. mas,
very striking due to its large flowers. D, H, R, St. Zone 5a.
sanguinea - Common Dogwood, Dogberry
____ A native shrub, 3 to 5 m tall, with a broad and upright-growing
habit; shoots bronze-green, red on the sunny side; flowers appearing
in May, very fragrant, borne in dense, whitish umbels - a
very adaptable and undemanding plant for the open fields. H,
St. Zone 4.

____ An up to 2 m tall shrub, growing broad, upright and densely
bushy. Branches striking yellow in winter, though bright orange
red on the sunny side and at the end of the branches. Leaves
dark green, turning yellowish orange in autumn. Flowers white.
Fruits black. A decorative shrub that appears as a burning bush
in winter when planted in groups or as a hedge. B, H, K. Zone 4.
