____ A small, up to 15 m tall tree, though mostly as bushy shrub, with
twigs spreading in a flat, even plane; leaves leathery, scale-like,
shiny green above and with striking, silvery white specks on the
underside - a lovely, slow-growing conifer, that is not as very
demanding with regards to air and soil moisture as often presumed.

____ A fast-growing tree, 15 to 20 m tall, having a broad, conical
growing habit when young, later an irregular yet picturesque
crown due to the multiple stems when older; branches grow horizontally
with elegant and overhanging tips; needles arranged
almost evenly in two rows, shiny green above, with 2 narrow
stomatal bands on the underside - a wonderful tree for parks and
gardens on fresh soils and humid positions or in slightly shady
areas. S. Zone 5b.
canadensis ´Nana´
____ A dwarf cultivar, about 1 m tall, with horizontally growing, long
and spreading branches and short, loosely-growing sprigs - the
most commonly used dwarf cultivar of the Eastern hemlock in
Germany. K, Z. Zone 6a.
