____ Up to 15 m tall tree, with a very narrow, columnar growing habit<br />

due to the branches and twigs that grow close to trunk; needles<br />

are bluish-green - a captivatingly lovely, columnar cultivar for<br />

planting as specimen or in groups in heather and rock gardens.<br />

____ 3 to 4 m tall and almost equally wide dwarf cultivar, growing<br />

at first upright, broad and conical, later loosely, with almost a<br />

rounded crown; needles are very short and lovely bluish-green<br />

- the most planted dwarf cultivar of P. sylvestris. D, H, K, St, Z.<br />

____ A fast-growing, 20 to 30 m tall tree, with a dense, broadly coneshaped<br />

crown, remains well-branched almost to ground even<br />

when older if grown as a specimen; needles are bluish-green, up<br />

to 20 cm long, drooping; light bronze cones, very lovely, almost<br />

30 cm long, possessing striking resin drops (like teardrops) in<br />

the second year - the loveliest and most elegant amongst the<br />

pines, though not sufficiently hardy in extremely cold winters.<br />
