orbiculatus (= articulatus) - Oriental Bittersweet<br />

____ A very strong-growing, up to 12 m tall, dioecious climber, with<br />

oval, non-glossy, green leaves, that turn yellow in autumn;<br />

flowers greenish, inconspicuous; fruits very striking, deep yellow<br />

with red arils, and lasting through the winter - an undemanding<br />

climbing plant, fruiting only when male and female plants are<br />

planted near each other. Zone 5a.<br />

HEDERA - IVY - ARALIACEAE<br />

helix - Common Ivy, English Ivy, Ivy<br />

____ An evergreen, native, climbing shrub, climbing up to 30 m hight,<br />

with holdfast roots, and rough, 3 to 5-lobed, dark green leaves;<br />

flowers greenish-yellow, borne in September/October in round<br />

umbels, joining together to form racemes; fruits round, black,<br />

ripen in the following year - a climbing plant that tolerates shades,<br />

suitable as a creeper on walls and buildings. B, K, R, St.<br />

helix ´Goldheart´<br />

____ A cultivar whose long shoots are at first reddish, later golden<br />

yellow, and having small to medium-large, almost triangular, irregularly<br />

large leaves, light yellow to golden yellow in the middle<br />

- the most effective amongst the multi-coloured cultivars. B, K.<br />
