____ Up to 80 cm tall willow with a creeping growing habit, dense,<br />

almost erect branches and shoots covered with white, grey<br />

felt; leaves broadly elliptic and covered with white-grey hairs -<br />

a dwarf willow, tolerant to drought, suitable for mass planting<br />

in the dunes or dry embankments; was awarded „Very Good“<br />

during the federal cultivar trials in Germany in 1992. B, D, Z.<br />

rosmarinifolia (= repens var. rosmarinifolia, sibirica)<br />

____ 0.2 to 1 m tall small shrub with low-growing, small stems and<br />

upright-growing branches; shoots thin, flexible, rooting easily;<br />

leaves opposite, linear to lanceolate, up to 5 cm long, dark green<br />

above, on the lower surface covered with greyish and silky hairs;<br />

flowers borne in egg-shaped catkins, male catkins yellow, April/<br />

May - suitable as specimen or for planting in groups or for mass<br />

planting; moist, humus as well as dry soils. B, K, Z. Zone 5a.<br />

sachalinensis ´Sekka´ (= udensis ´Sekka´, ´Setsuka´, sachalinensis f. ligulata)<br />

____ About 4 m tall, very broad and loose-growing shrub with winding<br />

branches; fasciated shoot ends with up to 5 cm wide bands,<br />

that are covered densely with small, silvery catkins - a bizarre,<br />

unconventional shrub, with shoots that can be effectively used<br />

in vases. S. Zone 5b.<br />

____ 2 to 4 m tall, fast and tall-growing, large shrub or small tree, with<br />

bark peeling off in thin plates (almost like Platanus); leaves lanceolate,<br />

5 to 10 cm long, tapered, dark green and glossy above,<br />

bluish or green underneath; male catkins yellow, often curled - a<br />

woody plant found in primary vegetation, suitable for planting on<br />

embankments, on graves, willow hedges etc., important, very<br />

long established willow plant used for basket weaving. Zone 4.<br />
