divaricatus - Spreading Cotoneaster
____ An upright-growing shrub, up to 2 m tall, with broad and spreading
sprigs; leaves dark green, elliptic, turning deep bronze to
scarlet red in autumn; flowers white, reddish at the base appearing
in June; fruits numerous, large, deep red, adhering long
through the season - one of the best deciduous fruiting plant
suitable for the open fields or for free-growing hedges. H, K,
St. Zone 5b.
horizontalis - Herring Bone Cotoneaster
____ A commonly used shrub, hardly over 40 cm tall, though much
broader due to its horizontal growing sprigs arranged in double
rows; leaves dark green and shiny turning scarlet red in autumn;
flowers rosy red appearing in May/June; fruits are abundant, red
and adhere long through the season - a well-known and versatile
shrub, especially lovely on sunny house walls; was awarded
„Very Good“ in 1986 during the federal cultivar trials in Germany.

____ A deciduous, upright-growing shrub, 3 to 4 m tall; shoots are
slender, broadly-arched and overhanging; flowers are abundant,
white, appearing in early June, borne in upright umbells; abundant,
red fruits in August/September - a striking flowering and
fruit-bearing shrub. D, H, S. Zone 5b.
praecox (= nanshan) - Praecox Cotonester
____ A deciduous shrub, up to 50 cm tall; shoots up to 1 m arching
or creeping, leaves oval, dark green, with wavy edges, turning
red in autumn; fruits are very large, red, appearing in August - a
dwarf shrub suitable for rock gardens or for planting in troughs or
on graves; was awarded „Very Good“ in 1986 during the federal
cultivar trials in Germany. B, K, St, Z. Zone 5b.
