____ Up to 1.5 m tall shrub, originating from Japan; flowers silverywhite,<br />

in flat umbels with 5 to 10 white, sterile ray flowers, appearing<br />

in May to October - an interesting cultivar, that flowers<br />

more or less the whole summer through. S. Zone 5b.<br />

____ An evergreen, 3 to 4 m tall, strong-growing shrub with somewhat<br />

stiff branches; evergreen leaves up to 25 cm long, strong<br />

wrinkled, above glossy green, downsides very hairy and pannosed<br />

in grey to brown; flowers creamy white, in flat, 10 to 20<br />

cm wide, umbel-like trusses blooming in May/June; in autumn<br />

already formed as clearly visable buds; fruits 8 mm long, first red<br />

later polished black – a robust and hardy woody plant suitable<br />

as specimen or for planting in groups for fresh nutritious soils in<br />

sunny to shady positions. H, R, S, St. Zone 6b.<br />

sargentii ´Onondaga´ - Sargent Viburnum<br />

____ Up to 2 m tall and equally broad shrub; shoots dark grey, corky,<br />

young shoots densely and finely covered with hairs; leaves<br />

3-lobed, 10 to 14 cm long and 9 to 14 cm wide, chestnut-bronze<br />

when young, later bronze-green; inflorescences in 5 to 12 cm<br />

wide, flat corymbs, buds red, creamy white to pale pink when<br />

blooming, appearing end of May to early June - selected in 1959<br />

by D.R. EGOLF, US National Arboretum - a striking, dark-leaved<br />

shrub, with very contrasting flowers, effective when combined<br />

with yellow-leaved woody plants, very hardy, and suitable for all<br />

soil types. R, H, K. Zone 5b.<br />
