____ Shootbreaks are dark red, later having blackish-red and shiny
leaves which do not fade in colour till autumn - surpasses with
its darker red leaves even ´Faassens Black´, ´Crimson King´ etc.

platanoides ´Royal Red´ - Red Leafed Norway Maple
____ An American cultivar; surely the most beautiful red-leaved cultivar
of the Norway maples, an eye-catching tree for parks. S,
St. Zone 5b.
pseudoplatanus - Mock Plane
____ A very large native tree growing 30 to 40 m with a broad, arched
crown and bark peeling off in small flakes; the rough, dark green,
5-lobed leaves, turning golden yellow with a reddish touch in
autumn; yellowish green flowers borne on rather long hanging
panicles after foliage break - a magnificent park and street tree
on moist and open soils. R, S. Zone 4.
rubrum - Red Maple, Canadian Maple
____ A medium-sized tree, growing to 15 m tall with loose crown and
hanging branches; the 3- to 5-lobed leaves grow on striking red
shoots, turning scarlet-red to yellow in autumn; equally striking
are the plentifull small, dark red flowers in March/April - valuable,
robust plant even for industrial sites and an excellent specimen
tree for gardens and parks, intolerant of very alkaline sites. R,
S. Zone 4.
rufinerve - Snake Bark Maple
____ Up to 5 m tall shrub with multiple stems and broad but loose,
funnel-shaped crown; bark is green with long white stripes; the
dark green, 3-lobed leaves turn carmine in autumn - a remarkably
beautiful snaked-bark maple maple. S. Zone 6b.
