The present invention relates to a method of marking a liquid hydrocarbon fuel which comprises adding to the fuel a
detectable amount of at least C7-20 hydrocarbon containing at least one non-aromatic carboxylic ring of at least 7 ring
carbon atoms, wherein the detectable amount of the each C7-20 hydrocarbon containing at least one non-aromatic
carbocyclic ring of at least 7 ring carbon atoms is at least 1 ppmw based on the liquid hydrocarbon fuel.
