We found splenomegaly in 6.2% of our patients.
In our series, we observed lymphadenopathy in 9,4%.
Haemorrhagic manifestations occurred in 18.7% of our patients.
Fever has been found in 18,7% of our patients with SLE.
The rate of anemia was 93,7%.
Anemia was normochromic and normocytic in 62,5%, autoimmune hemolytic
anemia AIHA has been noted in only 3,1% of our patients.
Anemia of chronic
disease was observed in 18,7% and iron deficiency anemia in3,1% of patients with
SLE.
Lymphopenia was found in 93,7%, leukoneutropenia in31,2%,
thrombocytopenia in 37,5% and hemacytopenia in 34,4% of our patients.
Laboratory results showed an immune thrombocytopenic purpura ITP in two
patients, an Evans syndrome in one patient and an AIHA in one patient.
Haematological involvement in patients with SLE should be treated with
systemic corticosteroids and immunosuppressive agents such as cyclophosphamide,
azathioprine and mycophenolate.
Blood transfusions, high-dose IV γ globulin and filgratism are among the
therapies that were used in some SLE patients with severe cytopenias.
We achieved a complete remission in 43,6% of the cases and lost one patient.
The results of our study join data from the literature and are similar to those
found in other lands, confirming the severity of hematological presentation in our
patients.
The literature review also reported that hemolytic anemia, neutropenia, or
lymphopenia did not influence the survival rate of patients with lupus. Moreover,
thrombocytopenia in SLE has been shown to be significantly associated with
anticardiolipin antibodies.
