it should not be done. It is often used in<br />

motion-picture studios to enable the producer to see rushes be<strong>for</strong>e<br />

they are combined with the sound track. It accepts separate<br />

sound and picture films; the <strong>for</strong>mer circulates through the sound<br />

gate only, the latter through the light gate only. After synchroniz-<br />

ing the two start marks, the machine can be run as a standard,<br />

single film projector. It will be noticed that the preview attachment<br />

feeds through the lower magazine opening and the magazine<br />

is removed to make room <strong>for</strong> it.<br />

The only purpose of a film projector is to illuminate film,<br />

focus the picture on the film onto a screen of some kind, and move<br />

the film through the apparatus at the proper speed so that the
