depend on some <strong>for</strong>m of device, either electronic or mechanical, to<br />

shut off the light at certain times, i.e., an electronic or mechanical<br />

shutter system. The Eastman Kodak Company has developed<br />

equipment <strong>for</strong> NBC and the Dumont network which does a very<br />

satisfactory job. In this case, a mechanical shutter is used. In the<br />

author's opinion the electronic shutter requires more work on<br />

cathode-ray tube phosphors. No mechanical shutter is used to cut<br />

off the light after each desired exposure in this system. There<strong>for</strong>e,<br />

if the phosphor has a long decay time instead of the light being<br />

sharply cut off every time,<br />

it will fade and leave a faint blur on the<br />

film. Of course, as progress is made in phosphor composition, the
