Bukhara Coins.<br />

No. 5. Impure silver, varying from 44 to 50 grains. 1<br />

Obverse. King's head, in outline, following <strong>the</strong> old<br />

forms on <strong>the</strong> coins <strong>of</strong> Varahran Chobin (No. 1 supra).<br />

<strong>The</strong> execution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> die is coarse, but <strong>the</strong> outline is free<br />

<strong>and</strong> bold. <strong>The</strong>re are two varieties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> crown, <strong>the</strong> one,<br />

with <strong>the</strong> half-moon <strong>and</strong> ball, is usually associated with <strong>the</strong><br />

coins <strong>of</strong> Muhammad <strong>and</strong> Al-Mahdi, while <strong>the</strong> simple orb<br />

or globe is more frequently, but not exclusively, combined<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Jy~ Sunniy variety.<br />

final u y <strong>and</strong> embody <strong>the</strong> outlying dot with that letter<br />

thus fully authorizing <strong>the</strong> reading <strong>of</strong> Khudddd.<br />
