<strong>of</strong> Mr. T. Wainwright, Grammar School, Barnstaple.<br />

This token was issued ten years earlier than any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>of</strong> that place. It belongs to Mr. W. Gill, <strong>of</strong> Tapstock,<br />

who kindly lent it for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> engraving.<br />

This token is in <strong>the</strong> author's collection. <strong>The</strong> spelling<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> town on it exactly represents its pronunciation by<br />

<strong>the</strong> natives.<br />

DODBROOKE.<br />

Rev. (No legend.) An ancient galley (filling <strong>the</strong> field).<br />

<strong>The</strong> issuer, a merchant <strong>of</strong> Dodbrooke, was buried in <strong>the</strong><br />

centre aisle <strong>of</strong> his parish church, where a stone slab is<br />

inscribed to his memory.<br />
