cabinets.) Of <strong>the</strong> hammered coins <strong>of</strong> Charles II. were sold a<br />

half-crown, m.m. crown, without value <strong>and</strong> inner circle,<br />

9 2s. 6d. ; <strong>and</strong> a similar coin, with value XXX <strong>and</strong> inner<br />

14 10s. Of <strong>the</strong> milled coinage <strong>of</strong> Charles II.,<br />

a five-guinea piece, 1668, with elephant under bust, realised<br />

8 17s. 6d. a similar coin <strong>of</strong> James ; II., 1687, with elephant<br />

sold for 10 Is. Five guinea pieces, <strong>of</strong> succeeding sovereigns,<br />

a pattern guinea, 1702, undraped bust to 1., with lock <strong>of</strong> hair<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> rarer coins <strong>of</strong> George III. <strong>the</strong>re were, in silver, a pattern<br />

crown, 1818, by Pistrucci, very large head laureate to r.,<br />

rev. St. George <strong>and</strong> Dragon within garter, 20 ; in gold, a pattern<br />

five-guinea piece, 1773, by Tanner, young bust, with long hair,<br />

but not curling below truncation, rev. M . B . F . ET . H . REX,<br />

&c., garnished shield <strong>of</strong> arms, crowned, 23 10s. ; a similar<br />

piece, 1777, by Yeo, bust different with hair curling below <strong>the</strong><br />

truncation, edge plain, 25 10s. ; <strong>and</strong> a pattern two-guinea<br />

piece, 1768, by Tanner, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same type as his five-guinea piece,<br />

8 15s. ; <strong>the</strong> pattern five-pound piece, 1820, by Pistrucci, large<br />

head <strong>of</strong> king to r., below, PISTRUCCI, rev. St. George <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
