Many slight varieties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> above coins are known with<br />

<strong>the</strong> letters 3, 9 3, ER, EP, <strong>and</strong> in one instance Op, on<br />

one or both sides. <strong>The</strong>se small coins <strong>of</strong> Orchomenus<br />

probably extend over <strong>the</strong> whole period between B.C. 395,<br />

when Orchomenus revolted from <strong>the</strong> League <strong>and</strong> joined<br />

<strong>the</strong> Spartans, <strong>and</strong> 364, <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> its destruction.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following larger coins, having on <strong>the</strong> obverse <strong>the</strong><br />

Boeotian shield, belong to <strong>the</strong> latter part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same<br />

period, <strong>the</strong> stater with <strong>the</strong> amphora being closely copied<br />

from <strong>the</strong> new Federal coinage first issued at <strong>The</strong>bes about<br />

B.C. 3798 (see below, p. 237. PI. V. 15).<br />
