30 This peculiarity is explained by <strong>the</strong> fact that for <strong>the</strong> mint <strong>of</strong> I-li as well<br />

as for <strong>the</strong> silver coinage <strong>of</strong> Tibet, <strong>the</strong> regulation was made in succeeding<br />

reigns that one-fifth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> coins issued should have <strong>the</strong> inscription Kien<br />

Lung in memory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> great Emperor's conquest. Cf. S. W. Bushell, Coins<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> present dynasty <strong>of</strong> China, p. 197, in Journ. North China Branch ft.<br />

As. S., 1880, vol. xv. pp. 195-308.
