Mr. B. V. Head exhibited on behalf <strong>of</strong> Mr. A. Grant four<br />

Roman imperial aurei : two <strong>of</strong> Julia Domna, one with <strong>the</strong><br />

reverse IVNO, Juno holding a patera <strong>and</strong> sceptre, at her feet a<br />

peacock, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> inscription, MATEI CASTBORVM,<br />

<strong>the</strong> empress st<strong>and</strong>ing before an altar sacrificing in front <strong>of</strong> two<br />

military st<strong>and</strong>ards, a type not uncommon on silver coins, but<br />

<strong>of</strong> extreme rarity on gold ; one <strong>of</strong> Caracalla <strong>and</strong> Geta, as<br />

Cohen, p. 451, No. 4 ; <strong>and</strong> one <strong>of</strong> Plautilla, obv. bust <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

empress to right, rev. PBOPAGO IMPEBI, Plautilla <strong>and</strong> Caracalla<br />

joining h<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Mr. Durlacher exhibited a specimen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> silver medal<br />

formerly given by <strong>the</strong> Corporation <strong>of</strong> London to sworn<br />

brokers.<br />

Mr. Krumbholz showed a Spanish dollar countermarked as a<br />

five-shilling token by <strong>the</strong> Deanston Cotton Mills.<br />

Mr. E. H. Willett communicated a paper on <strong>the</strong> resident<br />

character <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Monetarius in Saxon times, <strong>and</strong> Mr.<br />

C. Boach Smith an account <strong>of</strong> certain large finds composed<br />

chiefly <strong>of</strong> corns <strong>of</strong> Tetriciis, which are frequent both in this<br />

country <strong>and</strong> in France, <strong>and</strong> which must have been concealed<br />

about <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> reunion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> provinces <strong>of</strong> Gaul <strong>and</strong><br />

Britain to <strong>the</strong> Roman Empire. See " <strong>Numismatic</strong> Chronicle,"<br />
