Minister <strong>of</strong> Minerals and Energy:<br />

(a) How many power stations owned by<br />

(i) Eskom, (ii) municipalities and (iii)<br />

other entities have been (aa) mothballed,<br />

(bb) scrapped or (cc) sold in the past 14<br />

years and (b) in respect <strong>of</strong> each power<br />

station so mothballed, scrapped or sold,<br />

(i) what was the amount received and (ii)<br />

what was the generating capacity loss in<br />

The MINISTER OF MINERALS AND<br />

(i)(aa) The only Eskom stations that remained<br />

in reserve storage (mothballed) from<br />

1994 were Grootvlei, Komati and Camden.<br />

(i)(bb) and (cc) The table below is a list <strong>of</strong><br />

Eskom stations that were decommissioned<br />

and sold over the past 14 years. All were<br />

disposed <strong>of</strong> for economic reasons. The sale<br />

price was the net amount after rehabilitation<br />

costs.<br />

commercial operation. No powerstation<br />

owned by a municipality<br />

was scrapped or sold in the past 14<br />

years. No privately-owned powerstation<br />

was mothballed. No privately-owned<br />

powerstation was<br />

scrapped or sold in the past 14<br />

years. In respect <strong>of</strong> municipalities<br />

and privately-owned powerstations<br />

nothing was received as<br />

(ii) With Moqhaka, 30MW <strong>of</strong> generating<br />

capacity was lost, and 300MW<br />

by the Orlando Power Station.<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Home Affairs:<br />

(a) How many applications for refugee<br />

status were received between 2002<br />

and 2006,<br />

(b) how many such applications were (i)<br />

granted, (ii) refused, (iii) granted for<br />

a three-month period or less and (iv)
