Person’s vehicle damaged<br />

978. Ms D KOHLER-BARNARD (DA)<br />

asked the Minister <strong>of</strong> Safety and Security:<br />

(1) Whether a vehicle (details furnished)<br />

that was allocated to a certain person<br />

(details furnished) was damaged beyond<br />

repair; if not, what is the<br />

position in this regard; if so, (a) what<br />

are the full particulars <strong>of</strong> the incident<br />

and (b) what are the further relevant<br />

details <strong>of</strong> the investigation;<br />

(2) whether a departmental loss was<br />

registered; if not, why not; if so, what<br />

are the relevant details;<br />

(3) whether the Deputy National Commissioner:<br />

Supply Chain Management<br />

recently recalled certain state<br />

vehicles that were allocated to this<br />

person; if not, what is the position in<br />

this regard; if so, what are the (a) full<br />

particulars <strong>of</strong> the vehicles concerned<br />

and (b) reasons why the vehicles<br />

were recalled;<br />

(4) whether any vehicles are allocated to<br />

this person at present; if not, why<br />

not; if so, what are the (a) particulars<br />

<strong>of</strong> the vehicles, (b) post levels <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficials using the vehicles and (c)<br />

duties for which the vehicles are<br />

being used;<br />

(5) whether the misuse <strong>of</strong> state vehicles<br />

under the control <strong>of</strong> this person has<br />

ever been the subject <strong>of</strong> departmental<br />

investigations; if not, why not; if so,<br />

what are the full particulars <strong>of</strong> such<br />

The MINISTER OF SAFETY AND<br />

SECURITY:<br />

(1) Yes.<br />

The vehicle was a BMW 530d and not a<br />

BMW 330 series. The damages<br />

amounted to R101 449,74.<br />

(a) and (b) A case <strong>of</strong> reckless and<br />

negligent driving was opened.<br />

(2)<br />

Atteridgeville CAS 852/05/2007<br />

has bearing on this matter. The<br />

case is still under investigation.<br />

Yes. Loss control number 3464288 has<br />

bearing on this matter.<br />

(3) Yes. Two vehicles were recalled.<br />

(a) BPN 261 B — BMW X3<br />

BPN 670 B — BMW 330i<br />

(b) The vehicles were recalled for<br />

redistribution.<br />

(4) Yes. One vehicle was allocated to the<br />

Divisional Commissioner: Legal Services.<br />

(a) BNP 670 B — BMW 330i<br />

(b) Divisional Commissioner<br />

(c) This vehicle is used for <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

duties.<br />

(5) The matter is under departmental investigation<br />

which has not yet been completed.<br />

Recommendations made to ICD<br />

997. Mr R J KING (DA) asked the Minister<br />

<strong>of</strong> Safety and Security:<br />

(a) How many recommendations (i) have<br />

been followed, (ii) have not been followed<br />

and (iii) are still pending with regard to<br />

each <strong>of</strong> the 1 334 recommendations made<br />

by the Independent Complaints Directorate<br />

to the SA Police Service for the period<br />

1 April to 31 December 2007, with regard<br />

to (aa) deaths, (bb) criminal <strong>of</strong>fences and<br />

(cc) misconduct and (b) what are the<br />

relevant details in each case?<br />
