What is the status of the Command Management
and Information Systems Division’s
redesign of the division’s structure,
Project Domino? NW2552E
The MINISTER OF DEFENCE:
The future visioning for the new CMIS
Division will enable the DoD to better
manage the resource information by clear
clarification of roles and responsibilities in
the department.
Status of SANDF projects

Action against officials
1776. Adv H C SCHMIDT (DA) asked the
Minister of Defence:
Whether any disciplinary action was
taken against officials in his department
(a) in (i) 2005, (ii) 2006 and (iii) 2007 and
(b) during the period 1 January up to
30 September 2008; if not, why not; if so,
(i) in how many instances and (ii) in each
case (aa) what was the rank/position of the
official, (bb) what was the transgression
and (cc) what disciplinary action was

The MINISTER OF DEFENCE:

Yes, disciplinary action was taken as follows:
(a) (i) In 2005 the number of disciplinary
actions taken against uniformed
(military members) of the department
by means of finalised military
trials was 2 534. This number includes
trials by means of disciplinary
hearing by officers commanding
units and trials by military judges.
(ii) In 2006 the actions taken against
uniformed (military members) of the
department by means of finalised
military trials is 2 060. This number
includes trials by means of disciplinary
hearing by officers commanding
units and trials by military judges.
(iii) In 2007 the actions taken against
uniformed (military members) of the
department by means of finalised
military trials was 1 917. This number
included trials by means of disciplinary
hearing by officers commanding
units and trials by military
judges.
(b) During the period 1 January-30 September
2008, the number of disciplinary
actions taken against uniformed
(military members) of the department
by means of finalised military trials was
1 252. This number included trials by
means of disciplinary hearing by officers
commanding units and trials by
military judges.
(ii) (aa) Rank and position is not
available
(bb) Transgression. The vast majority
of offences are the various
forms of absence without
leave and dereliction of duty,
