asked the Minister <strong>of</strong> Safety and Security:<br />

(1) What are the relevant details with<br />

regard to (a) the current SA Police<br />

Service external deployments in<br />

terms <strong>of</strong> (i) country and/or deployment<br />

location, (ii) duration <strong>of</strong> deployment<br />

and (iii) numbers <strong>of</strong><br />

deployed SAPS members by (aa)<br />

rank and (bb) gender and (b)<br />

(2)<br />

authorised levels for deployments;<br />

whether there is a difference between<br />

the current and the authorised levels<br />

<strong>of</strong> deployment; if so, what are the<br />

The MINISTER OF SAFETY AND SECU-<br />

RITY:<br />

(1) (a) (i) The <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n Police Service<br />

is currently only deployed<br />

in Darfur, Sudan under the<br />

United Nations <strong>Africa</strong>n Mission<br />

in Darfur (UNAMID).<br />

(ii) The period <strong>of</strong> deployment is<br />

one (1) year.<br />

(iii) One hundred and sixty (160)<br />

members are deployed in Darfur,<br />

Sudan.<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Trade and Industry:<br />

Whether any disciplinary action was<br />

taken against <strong>of</strong>ficials in his department<br />

(a) in (i) 2005, (ii) 2006 and (iii) 2007 and<br />

(b) during the period 1 January up to<br />

30 September 2008; if not, why not; if so,<br />

(i) in how many instances and (ii) in each<br />

case, (aa) what was the rank/position <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>of</strong>ficial, (bb) what was the transgression<br />

and (cc) what disciplinary action was<br />
