currently the only organisation<br />

that has specialised in the study <strong>of</strong><br />

violence for the past decade and a<br />

half. Throughout this period, the<br />

organisation has been an innovator<br />

in preventing violence, dealing<br />

with its effects and in building<br />

reconciliation in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong><br />

through its research and outreach<br />

programmes. Furthermore, it is<br />

dedicated to conducting ‘‘actionoriented’’<br />

research. It is the only<br />

organisation that boasts the capacity<br />

to undertake various kinds <strong>of</strong><br />

violence-related studies and these<br />

include: political, criminal, domestic,<br />

gendered, vigilante and<br />

state violence. The organisation<br />

employs specialist researchers<br />

who, among others, include psychologists,<br />

sociologists, political<br />

scientists, historians, lawyers, criminologists<br />

and community<br />

development practitioners as a<br />

means to address violence from<br />

a multi-disciplinary perspective.<br />

The CSVR also boasts to have<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ound knowledge and has publications<br />

in the JCPS Cluster<br />

a wider audience on violence and<br />

crime<br />

(c) Identification <strong>of</strong> key implementation<br />

issues to be incorporated in<br />

the Government Programme <strong>of</strong><br />

Action<br />

(d) Monitoring, evaluation and reporting<br />

on the implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

key recommendations by various<br />

role-players.<br />
