Yes, there was a former employee of
the department who was rehired as a
contractor in 2005-06 financial year.
(a) The reason why Mr Salim Latib was
rehired was to assist with technical
support to the International and
African Affairs component.
(b) Mr Salim Latib’s contract expired
in November 2004; he opted not to
renew his contract to pursue other
personal interest in other fields.
But due to lack of capacity and
expertise within the International
and African Affairs component
and based on his technical skills
and expertise, the Department
deemed it necessary to contract
him again from May 2005 to
November 2005 specifically to assist
with the Pan African Conference
of Minister’s Programme.

R54 808 000 and R71 074 000
was incurred in relation to consultants
who were appointed to
assess all the public sector incapacity
leave and ill-health retirement
