USER'S MANUAL General instructions for use 6.10.2 Defects due to wrong data setting and to the dark room Problem Description Solution Under or overexposed film. Completely black film. Veiled film. Film with stripes. Film with blurred details but with good contrast. Film completely white. Soft Tissues not or poorly visible in L-L projection. The set kV value is not fit for the size of the patient. Possible error during development. The film caught too much light or underwent an involuntary radiation. This defect is checked looking at the film edges not impressed by the radiation: if they are not perfectly transparent, thus causing a poor definition on all film. Being rapidly scratched against its box the film accumulated electrostatic charges or the scintillating screens have not been treated with antistatic liquid. The film is not correctly pressed between the screens. Missing X-ray emission or wrong development. The STF value is not correct. A symmetric cassette size was selected. Check the development system, or repeat the exam varying the kV value: see paragraph 6.4.4. Should this solution fail, call the Technical Service. Verify the locking of the dark room and do not keep new films near radiogene sources or light sources. Verify that the film is not expired and that the storing indications given by the manufacturer have been followed. Verify the working of the non-actinic lamp in dark room. Clean the screens with the antistatic liquid. Replace the cassette. Verify the emission of the X-rays by acoustical and luminous signal (led 2), if the error persists, check the development procedure. If no solution can be found, call the Technical Service. Refer to paragraph 6.8.3 to adjust the position of the "STF". Select an asymmetrical cassette size (which will enable the STF filter). 6.10.3 Defects on film due to the device 1. Should the film show non irradiated areas or be completely white, this can mean that there is a defect in the alignment between X-ray beams and film or a partial or total missing of irradiation; in any case, call the Technical Service. 2. In case the soft tissue of the patient are not highlighted while performing a cephalometry, in a latero-lateral, let the technician verify the adjustment of the soft tissue filter. A good panoramic examination allows distinguishing the main anatomical structures that are shown in the next drawing: Ref.
