6.5.3 TMJ closed mouth<br />

6.5.3.1 Preparing the patient<br />

1. Ask the patient to remove all metallic objects located in the area to be<br />

X-rayed (necklaces, earrings, glasses, hair-pins, movable dental<br />

prosthesis, etc.). Ensure that there no thick garments in the area to<br />

be X-rayed such as coats, jackets, ties, etc.<br />

2. Provide the patient with a protective apron or similar. Ensure that<br />

the protection device does not interfere with the path of the X-rays<br />

beam.<br />

3. Place the patient in a standing position at the edentulous chin<br />

support. Using the "27+28" keys (up)<br />

or "29+28" keys<br />

(down)<br />

raise/lower the column until the chin support<br />

rest is aligned with the patient's chin.<br />

4. If there are no functional problems in the joint, it is recommended to<br />

use the panoramic byte to help the patient in holding a correct<br />

positioning.<br />
