An overview of tho data processing field, general practices and<br />

aims of business, data processing systems and terminology, data<br />

collection, report preparation, functions of data processing units,<br />

flow charts, systems design concepts. Students receive practice<br />

in writing computer programs In either BASIC or Pascal<br />

languages.<br />

Prerequisi"e: CIS 171 or permission of instructor.<br />

Adetailed study of tha COBOL programming lan~uagG and the<br />

organization of aCOBOL program. Computer organization, data<br />

structure, program procedures, input-output and operation<br />

considerations.<br />

Adetailed study of the FORTRAN programming language to<br />

An introduction to computers and BASIC language with emphasis<br />

on the concepts. writing and execution of computer programs.<br />

Prerequisite: MAT 020 and CIS 171 or permiSSion of instructor. <br />

An initial course In Report Program Generator (RPG) II. Students<br />

will learn to develop tYpical business application programs<br />

including: RPG II synta)( specifications. problem manipulation.<br />

magnetic lape and disk storage. and avariety of file<br />

access methods.<br />

CIS 178 Introduction to ADA for Managers/1 Unit<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

The study of the ADA programming language from amanag~(s<br />

viewpoint, including the history of ADA's development, software<br />

development meth~dologies, the software life cycle with ADA,<br />

overview of the ADA language. and the support environment<br />

provided by ADA are reviewed.<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

Acourse In the use of management information software for<br />

microcomputers. Applications Include spreadsheets, databases.<br />

word processing. graphiCS and the computer's operating system.<br />

No programming experience IS necessary.<br />

CIS 192* Military and Defense Application in CIS/.5<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

Automation in the military- and defense-related industries requires<br />

avariety of computer applications, from clerical functions to<br />

management-support functions, each needing an expertise In a<br />

particular software product to perform the required function. This<br />

course IS asenes of courses developed and oHered to meet these<br />

needs. each individual oHering in response to aspecifiC need<br />

identified by amilitary unit or adefense-related Industry and<br />

approved by the Vice President for Instruction.<br />
