review, outlining, summarizing, writing essay questions, using the<br />
library and the microcomputer to study spelling and vocabulary,<br />

ENG 002 Basic English for Vocations/1 Unit<br />
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.<br />
Acourse taken in conjunction with ESL 034, ENG 020 or ENG<br />
02.2 d~signed to introduce the student to the vocabulary and study<br />
Skills Important for success in aspecific vocational field,<br />
Specific areas in which modules are currently available include<br />
office com~unications, ~dministration of justice, drafting, aviation<br />
(both for pilots and for airframe and powerplant). Modules in other<br />
fields will be developed as demand warrants,<br />

ENG 004 Spelling Improvementl1 Unit<br />
Prerequisite: None.<br />
Areview of spelling fundamentals helps freshmen co~<br />
words used in various content fields as well as basic function<br />
words for college writing; a review of basic phonetics. common<br />
roots, silent consonants and vowel blends. Included in tilt<br />
Reading Improvement Block or taught individually by student<br />
contract through the Student Development Center.<br />

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score andlor<br />
recommendation of former English/ESL instructor,<br />
An intensive review of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and 0\Ilef<br />
fundamentals, with emphasis on writing paragraphs and sho~<br />
essays. Non·transferable,<br />

ENG 011 Written Military Communications and<br />
Reports/1 Unit<br />
Development of the skills of written communications and reports<br />
with emphasis on accuracy, brevity and clarity. Assignmenlswlli<br />
consist of military reports and correspondence normally written by<br />

ENG 019 Transitional Readingf3-4 Units<br />
Prerequisite: EI)L 034 or placement test score,<br />
Acourse designed for ESL students beginning regular college<br />
classes and for lower level readers of English. Emphasis on<br />
basic, literal comprehension, vocabulary building and readlngrale<br />
improvement. Upon completion, the student will read at the 6.0<br />
reading level or equivalent as measured by a standardized<br />
reading test. (Identical with RDG 019,)<br />
