Student Services<br />

Student Life Committee <br />

The Student Ufe Committee is composed of faculty, staff and <br />

students. The committee evaluates and recommends policies and <br />

procedures to the <strong>College</strong> Senate in areas of social standards, <br />

medical service, resident student and food services, financial aid, <br />

admissions, tutoring, registration and recruitment. <br />

Student Development Center <br />

The Student Development Center on each campus has an <br />

intensive advisement program which offers students ongoing <br />

quality advisement by special SOC aavisors. Adrop-in computer <br />

lab is available as is free course placement asse~sment in <br />

English, composition, ESL, re~ding a~d mathem.atics. Students <br />

may sign up for peer tutor asslstan~e In any SUbJect, ~nd <br />

professional tutors rn~y.also be assigned. Students Wlt~ good <br />

GPA's may receive minimum wage hourly pay for tutoring through <br />

the Center. Aspecial program (IVEP) Individual Vocational <br />

Educational Plan exists for students in need of special services <br />

such as; note-takers, readers and interpreters. Disabled students <br />

are encouraged to contact the SOC for assistance. Personal <br />

counseling, career counseling and related testing are also <br />

available. <br />

Health Service. <br />

The <strong>College</strong> offers awell-equipped campus health center at the <br />

Douglas Campus directed by afull·time registered nurse. In ca~es <br />

of illness or injury, students are referred to alocal doctor of th~1r <br />

choice for diagnosis and treatment. Student health insurance IS <br />

available on avoluntary basis through Privtlte Health Insurance <br />

Companies. <br />

Student Union <br />

The "living room" of the campus offers students the opportunity <br />

to socialize with fellow students, faculty and administration in an <br />

informal atmosphere. Meeting rooms as well as comfortable <br />

lounges, abilliard room, game room, TV viewing area and <br />

various dining fscm!. afe provided for student particlpation and<br />

enjoyment Both Student Activities and Student Government<br />

Offices also are located in this building.<br />

Dining services provided by the Student Union include the ~<br />

Pas snack bar. aprivate dining facility and alarge well-eqtllpped<br />

dining room capabte of seating 250. Resident students are offered<br />

awell·balanced menu as well as seasonal buffets, specials, and<br />

unique monotony-breakers designed to create a'·second·home"<br />

atmosphere in the Student Union.<br />

Student Activities<br />

The <strong>College</strong> encourages participation in extracurricular activities,<br />

campus organizations, intramural, and intercollegiate athletics to<br />

promote leadership, student relationships, and social<br />

development. Most campus activities are the responsibility of<br />

student clubs and organizations. During the year, afull schedule<br />

of activities is planned for the student body by the student<br />

government and various clubs and organizations.<br />

Student activities include: Apache Fest. athletic events, band,<br />

choir billiards tournaments, college rodeo, Cultural Film Series,<br />

dram'a productions, informal dances, intramural sports, Public<br />

Events Saries, Red and White Ball, Student Orientation Program,<br />

Las Vegas Night, concerts, lectures, picnics, weekend trips,<br />

Popular Film Series and others.<br />

Organization.<br />

Student organizations attempt to meet special student needs and<br />

interests. Students of similar interests may form aclub in which<br />

fellow students can participate in specialized activities. Presently,<br />

the following organizations are available for student participation:<br />

Alpha Eta Rho (Aviation). The Argus (newspaper), Phi Theta<br />

Kappa (National Community/Junior <strong>College</strong> Honors Society).<br />

International Club. Phi Beta Lambda (business, office and<br />

business teacher education), Rodeo Club, Newman Club,<br />

Aviation Maintenance Specialists, Circle KClub and the Native<br />

American Club.<br />
