AJS 200 Criminal Law I (Substlntlve)/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, ENG 101, Reading 11.5 grade leve:<br />

or higher.<br />

Ageneral overview of criminal procedure, the court system,<br />

arrest, search and seizure with emphasis upon substantive<br />

criminal law, the various elements of particular crimes as set forth<br />

generally in common law and particularly as applied to Arizona<br />

Revised Statute, Criminal Code, Title 13.<br />

AJS 201 Criminal Law II (Procedural)/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, AJS 200 (preferred), ENG 101, Reading<br />

11.5 grace level or higher.<br />

Astudy of procedural law as it relates to arrest and arrest<br />

warrants; search: with and without a warrant; obtaining an arrest<br />

or search warrant; the meaning of probable cause and its<br />

significance to the police officer; the Exclusionary Rule; search<br />

incidental to arrest; consent searches; evidence in plain view;<br />

search and seizure of vehicles without awarrant; admissions and<br />

confessions; stop and frisk; and preparation of acase for court.<br />

AJS 205 Community Corrections/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, AJS 112, ENG 101, Reading 11.5 grade<br />

level or higher.<br />

Apractical study of the origins and development of probation and<br />

parole, including the primary roles of lawyers, judges, probation<br />

and parole officers in the administration of each, and an<br />

examination of various sentencing alternatives.<br />

AJS 215 PenologyJ3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, AJS 112, ENG 101, Reading 11.5 grade<br />

level or higher.<br />

Astudy of correctional management topics including ~!<br />

classification. "good credit, discipline, prisoner's rights and<br />

security/control measures: additional emphases are placed on the<br />

guard's role, different management styles, and various<br />

correctional models.<br />

AJS 224 Field Experltnce In Administration of<br />

Justlce/1-6 Units<br />

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing in adeclared major and prior<br />

approval of Cooperative Education Program Coordinator.<br />

Asupervised Cooperative Education work experience involving<br />

the combined efforts of educators and employers to accomplish<br />

career objectives in Administration of Justice. Variable crealt (1-6)<br />

is available by special arrangement. May be taken four times for<br />

a maximum of 16 credit hours, no more than 6 units in a<br />

given semester.<br />

AJS 235 Crlmlnallnvestigation/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, 122, ENG 101, Reading 11.5 grade level<br />

or higher recommended.<br />

An introduction to the elements of felony crime investigation;<br />

methods of preliminary and follow-up investigation; interviewing;<br />

interrogation of witnesses and suspects (subject to legal aspects):<br />

sources of information: witnesses, informants and aQencies;<br />

methods of criminal operation in various crimes: arson, burglary,<br />

homicide, sex crimes, robbery and various other crimes.<br />

AJS 236 Forensic Science/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: AJS 101, 235 required; ENG 101, Reading 11.5<br />

grade level or higher.<br />

Astudy of the scientific method of crime scene search. Methods<br />

of recognition, collection, recording, marking or tagging for<br />

identification, packaging and transporting to the crime laboratory<br />

of physical objects such as weapons, clothing, physiological<br />

fluids, hair, fingerprints. Fingerprints: latent and visible, patterns,<br />

lifting and preserving methods, casting of impressions: shoe. lire.<br />

tool marks. Students will locate, dust. lift latent fingerprints, make<br />
