Student Development Center throughout the semester to ensure<br />
that they receive academic support prior to having problems with<br />
class work or schedules. Student Development Center advisors<br />
assist in degree and transfer planning and in choosing programs<br />
of study compatible with students' short and long term<br />
educational goals.<br />
Counseling<br />
The counseling staff of <strong>Cochise</strong> <strong>College</strong> is available in the<br />
Student Development Centsr to assist students in developing<br />
decision making skills and personal strengths which allow them to<br />
help themselves. Problems of adjustmAnt related to academic and<br />
personal or social areas are not unusual, and counselors are here<br />
to assist students during the day and certain evening hours.<br />
Career counseling and related testing is available.<br />
IVEP<br />
IVEP is afederally funded grant program which provides special<br />
services to qualified vocational students. Special services include<br />
tutoring, speCial equipment, and workshops. Students with<br />
questions concerning eligibility for IVEP services should stop by<br />
the IVEP office in the Student Development Center.<br />
Career Action Center<br />
The <strong>College</strong>'s Career Action Center is an amalgamation of three<br />
separate but closely related services· Cooperative Education,<br />
Student Placement, and Career Placement. Professional staff<br />
members will serve student job and career needs, including part·<br />
time or temporary employment, Cooperative Education, or full·<br />
time career employment. Short·term workshops are conducted<br />
periodically on topics such as resume writing, interviewing<br />
techniques, the hidden job market, networking, and dress<br />
for success.<br />
Cooperative Education<br />
Cooperative Education (CO-OP) is an educational process that<br />
tormally integrates <strong>College</strong> course work with study-related work<br />
experience in business, industry, and government. Using<br />
"learning objectives" established during each semester of<br />
registration, the CO-OP student earns <strong>College</strong> credit to apply<br />
toward program completion requirements.<br />
The student's work is coordinated by college staff and the student<br />
will receive college ereCt for this job experience. This program "<br />
also adaptable for employed IdYlls who are interested in gaming<br />
additional job skills for future advancement. Cooperative<br />
Education is not acoorse of study, but is the laboratory<br />
component for various programs offered at <strong>Cochise</strong> C('I""18.<br />
Student Job Placement<br />
As an integral part of the Career Action Center, student<br />
placement representatives receive job orders (both part and full·<br />
time) regularly from employers throughout the state. Job listings<br />
are prepared daily and are posted at convenient locations on<br />
campus. In close c~operation with the Arizona State Job Service<br />
representatives, the Placement Office seeks out information on<br />
employment opportunities throughout <strong>Cochise</strong> County. the state,<br />
the region, and the nation. and makes this information avallable to<br />
students and graduates. Anew emphasis on Placement services<br />
is the availability of career counseling and acareer library. plus<br />
workshops and video assisted instruction on job-seeking skills for<br />
students and graduates.<br />
Student Classification<br />
Classification of Students<br />
Freshman: Student with fewer than 28 passing units of<br />
college credit.<br />
Sophomore: Student with 28 or more passing units of<br />
college credit.<br />
FUll-time Student: Student carrying 12 or more units during<br />
the semester.<br />
Part-time Student: Student carrying 1to 11 units during the<br />
semester.<br />
Residency Requirements<br />
Residence In Local High School District:<br />
Students whose residence is in one of the high school districts<br />
comprising the <strong>Cochise</strong> <strong>College</strong> District are qualified to enroll at<br />
<strong>Cochise</strong> <strong>College</strong> according to the admissions policies and<br />
procedures set forth in this catalog.<br />
