FST 111 Fire Operations 11/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FST 110.<br />

Acontinuation of FST 110 with additional emphasis placed on<br />

community fire defense systems, use of ropes, hoses, ladders, .<br />

and breathing apparatus in fire service and review of pr~~I~ms In<br />

fire extinguishment, ventilation, salvage and overhaul utiliZing<br />

classroom and field exercises.<br />

FST 120 Fire Service Hydreullcs/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FST 110 and 111.<br />

Areview of basic math, hydraulic laws and formulas as applied to<br />

the fire service; application of formulas and mental calculations to<br />

hydraulic problems, water supply problems and undelWriters<br />

requirements and pumpe's.<br />

FST 130 Introduction to Fire Suppression/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

Acourse stressing the characteristics and behavior of fire, fire<br />

hazard properties of ordinary materials, extinguishing agents, fire<br />

suppression organization and equipment, basic fire fighting<br />

tactics, and public relations as affected by fire suppression.<br />

FST 150 Hazardous Materials 1/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

Areview of the fundamentals of chemistry used in fire service<br />

types of chemicals and processes, laws at Federal, State and'<br />

local levels pertaining to use, storage and transportation<br />

of chemicals.<br />

FST 160 Hazardous Materials 11/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FST 150.<br />

fire sCience Including hazards of radio-actives precautions to<br />

observe in fighting fires involving hazardous ~aterials, and<br />

laboratory demonstrations in incompatibles.<br />

FST 200 Fire Apparatus and Equlpment/3 Unitt<br />

Prerequisite: FST 101 and FST 106.<br />

Acourse designed to instruct students in the selection, care<br />

construction, operation and maintenance of fire department •<br />

equipment, investigating basic principles of equipment,trOUb/e.<br />

shooting and testing.<br />

FST 220 Rescue Practlces/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: None.<br />

Acourse on life·savil~g practices pertaining to the fire company<br />

emphasizing resuscitator squads, rescue equipment, the Fire<br />

Department's role in Civil Defense and other disaster acts.<br />

FST 224 Field Experience In Fire Science<br />

Technology/1-6 Units<br />

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing in adeclared major and prior<br />

approval of Cooperative Education Program Coordinator.<br />

Asupervised Cooperative Education work experience involving<br />

the combined efforts of educators and employers to accom~js"<br />

career objectives in fire science technology. Variable credit (1.01<br />

is available by special arrangement. May be taken four times ior a<br />

maximum of 16 credit hours, no more than 6units in agiven<br />

semester.<br />

FST 240 Fire Fighting Tactics and<br />

Strategy/3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FST 130.<br />

Acourse in the art of using manpower, equipment, and appalatuS<br />

on the fire ground including practical methods of how to attaCk.<br />
