New Runway Project Strategy<br />

3. New Runway Project - Overview<br />

The intent of <strong>the</strong> Project is to redevelop current infrastructure and deliver new infrastructure<br />

to support <strong>the</strong> continued growth of <strong>the</strong> Sunshine Coast Airport. A general overview of <strong>the</strong><br />

Project objectives, statement of work, specifications, scope, milestones and work<br />

breakdown structure is provided below.<br />

3.2. Long Term Strategic Development Objective<br />

The long term strategic development objective <strong>for</strong> Sunshine Coast Airport is to stimulate<br />

and support <strong>the</strong> growing regional economy of <strong>the</strong> Sunshine Coast.4<br />

3.3. Project Objectives and Design Criteria<br />

The overall objectives of this project, sourced from <strong>the</strong> Airport <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and Annual<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance <strong>Plan</strong> 2007/08, to be achieved by 2020 and based around <strong>the</strong> preliminary<br />

design criteria, are as follows:<br />

· To provide IATA Service Level C or better throughout <strong>the</strong> project life<br />

· To facilitate new international routes and accommodate <strong>for</strong>ecast 2 million<br />

domestic and limited international passengers per year, 1400 busy hour<br />

passengers and 7 aircraft stands<br />

· To design, construct and commission a new runway and associated infrastructure<br />

based around a B737-900 design aircraft. The runway design life is yet to be<br />

determined<br />

· To redevelop existing infrastructure including <strong>the</strong> terminal, parking apron,<br />

operational facilities, car parks and commercial precinct<br />

· To protect airspace associated with <strong>airport</strong> assets<br />

· To provide 1000 long and short term car parks<br />

· To provide capacity <strong>for</strong> 100 on-site tenants, and commercial users<br />

· To establish an effective ownership structure and long term value realisation post<br />

construction and commissioning of <strong>the</strong> new runway and infrastructure, including<br />

achieving an appropriate Return on Investment (ROI) or Return on Capital<br />

Employed (ROCE) objective.<br />
