New Runway Project Strategy preferred design for a replacement aerodrome in the medium term. This study is incorporated as an investigation of General Aviation Strategy in SEQIPP. 14.6. Environmental Management Program Airport management is reviewing and enhancing the Environment Management Plan to better reflect the significant environmental issues being managed by the airport. Reference: Sunshine Coast Airport Environment Management Plan 2004 (under review) 14.6.1. Environmental Issues The nature of this project brings with it environmental challenges to be addressed within the planning and construction phases. These include but are not limited to the change in noise footprint and the physical impact of the facilities on the adjacent conservation areas. These issues will need to be considered within the context of the Council and Airport Environmental Management Programs and Plans. 14.6.2. Carbon Emissions An emerging issue is the increasing focus on reducing carbon emissions, and the Federal Government’s commitment to introduce a carbon emissions trading scheme by 2010. This scheme will potentially levy on the airport an increased financial and/or operational burden that will need to be considered and scoped during the design phase of the project. 14.7. Commercial Development Airport management has decided on a strategy of generating an increased proportion of commercial revenue through commercial development. This strategy will be implemented in parallel with and will inform the New Runway Project. 14.8. Business Strategy Essential to provision of funding to the New Runway Project will be the development and implementation of a business strategy that addresses airport structure, desired financial performance etc in the longer term. The development of this strategy has been incorporated in the Project Strategy for the purpose of identifying it as an essential precursor to obtaining funding, although it will essentially be developed in parallel with the Project. 14.9. Land use planning The airport is situated on land owned by a number of entities and/or specified for land uses that potentially conflict with the desired outcomes of the New Runway Project. These potential conflicts will need to be resolved in the short term to provide a solid foundation for project decision-making.
