New Runway Project Strategy
13. Engagement
As the New Runway Project is such a significant project from a number of perspectives, it
will be important to continually engage with all stakeholders to facilitate shared ownership
and therefore maximise likelihood of achieving project outcomes.
The work breakdown structure reflects engagement through each phase and stage of the
project.
There are a number of programs and plans relevant to engaging with stakeholders, to be
applied as appropriate throughout the engagement element of the project.
13.1. References
· Maroochy Shire Council Public Participation Program Manual
· Sunshine Coast Airport Marketing Plan
· Airport Name Change Project
13.2. Public Participation Program
Maroochy Shire Council had a well-developed program for enhancing a sense of
community through public participation in decision-making. Public participation in the
development of the Airport Master Plan was sought during the public exhibition phase.
During the feasibility phase of the Project, public participation should be sought during the
review and amendment of the Master Plan following analysis of the feasibility studies.
13.3. Marketing Plan
At the time of writing a draft Marketing Plan had been prepared for implementation in the
08/09 Financial Year.
In coming years, the marketing plan will need to consider the impact of development
activities on both business continuity and potential opportunities. It will therefore have to
provide for the engagement of operators, tenants and leaseholders, associated businesses
and airport customers generally.
13.4. Name Change Project
As part of the longer term strategy to rebrand the airport and align its aeronautical name
and location/navaid/waypoint identifiers with the new ownership entity and the region it
serves, a project to remove reference to Maroochy and/or Maroochydore from the airport
name, and rename aeronautical identifiers has been initiated.
It is proposed to call the airport Sunshine Coast Airport, change the four letter ICAO
designator to YBSU or YBSC, and re-name the navaid and waypoint identifiers to SU or
SC as appropriate to the four letter designator.
It is expected that the change, if facilitated by Airservices Australia in accordance with
airport management expectations, will take effect in November 2009. An information
program will need to be prepared once the scope and timing of the changes are agreed.
