Task Organization Format <strong>and</strong> Instructions<br />

A-12. Table A-1 lists the <strong>Army</strong> comm<strong>and</strong> relationships. Comm<strong>and</strong> relationships define superior <strong>and</strong><br />

subordinate relationships between unit comm<strong>and</strong>ers. By specifying a chain of comm<strong>and</strong>, comm<strong>and</strong><br />

relationships unify effort <strong>and</strong> enable comm<strong>and</strong>ers to use subordinate forces with maximum flexibility.<br />

<strong>Army</strong> comm<strong>and</strong> relationships identify the degree of control of the gaining <strong>Army</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>er. The type of<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> relationship often relates to the expected longevity of the relationship between the headquarters<br />

involved <strong>and</strong> quickly identifies the degree of support that the gaining <strong>and</strong> losing <strong>Army</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>ers<br />

provide.<br />
