Services<br />
The <strong>Staff</strong><br />
� Conducting operational <strong>and</strong> tactical planning to support mode <strong>and</strong> terminal operations, <strong>and</strong><br />
movement control.<br />
� Planning administrative troop movements (with the G-3 [S-3]).<br />
� Coordinating transportation assets for other Services.<br />
� Coordinating with the G-9 (S-9) for host-nation support.<br />
� Coordinating special transport requirements to move the comm<strong>and</strong> post.<br />
� Coordinating with the G-1 (S-1) <strong>and</strong> the provost marshal to transporting replacement personnel<br />
<strong>and</strong> enemy prisoners of war.<br />
� Coordinating with the G-3 (S-3) for sustainment of tactical troop movements.<br />
2-60. The G-4 (S-4) responsibilities for services include, but are not limited to—<br />
� Coordinating the construction of facilities <strong>and</strong> installations, except for fortifications <strong>and</strong> signal<br />
systems.<br />
� Coordinating field sanitation.<br />
� Coordinating organizational clothing <strong>and</strong> individual equipment exchange <strong>and</strong> replacement.<br />
� Coordinating unit spill-prevention plans.<br />
� Coordinating or providing food preparation, water purification, mortuary affairs, aerial delivery,<br />
laundry, shower, <strong>and</strong> clothing/light textile repair.<br />
� Coordinating the transportation, storage, h<strong>and</strong>ling, <strong>and</strong> disposal of hazardous material or<br />
hazardous waste.<br />
<strong>Staff</strong> Planning <strong>and</strong> Supervision<br />
2-61. The G-4 (S-4) has the following staff planning <strong>and</strong> supervisory responsibilities:<br />
� Identifying requirements the unit can meet through contracting.<br />
� Identifying requirements <strong>and</strong> restrictions, in conjunction with the <strong>Staff</strong> Judge Advocate, for<br />
using local civilians, enemy prisoners of war, civilian internees, <strong>and</strong> detainees in sustainment<br />
operations.<br />
� Coordinating with the <strong>Staff</strong> Judge Advocate on legal aspects of contracting.<br />
� Coordinating with financial managers on the financial resources availability.<br />
� Coordinating real property control <strong>and</strong> fire protection for facilities.<br />
2-62. A support operations officer or materiel officer is authorized in support comm<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> battalions. As<br />
the principal staff officer for coordinating logistics, the support operations officer or materiel officer<br />
provides technical supervision for the sustainment mission of the support comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> is the key interface<br />
between the supported unit <strong>and</strong> support comm<strong>and</strong>. The responsibilities of the support operations officer or<br />
materiel officer include, but are not limited to—<br />
� Advising the comm<strong>and</strong>er on support requirements versus support assets available.<br />
� Coordinating external support requirements for supported units.<br />
� Synchronizing support requirements to ensure they remain consistent with current <strong>and</strong> future<br />
operations.<br />
� Planning <strong>and</strong> monitoring support operations <strong>and</strong> making adjustments to meet support<br />
requirements.<br />
� Coordinating with other staff.<br />
� Preparing <strong>and</strong> distributing the external service support SOP that provides guidance <strong>and</strong><br />
procedures to supported units.<br />
ASSISTANT CHIEF OF STAFF, G-5 (S-5), PLANS<br />
2-63. The ACOS, G-5 (S-5) is the principal staff officer for planning operations for the mid- to long-range<br />
planning horizons. In conjunction with the G-3 (S-3), the G-5 (S-5) prepares Annex A (Task Organization),<br />
