Chapter 2<br />
ASSISTANT CHIEF OF STAFF, G-4 (S-4), LOGISTICS<br />
2-55. The ACOS, G-4 (S-4) is the principal staff officer for sustainment plans <strong>and</strong> operations (general),<br />
supply, maintenance, transportation, services, <strong>and</strong> operational contract support. The G-4 (S-4) helps the<br />
support unit comm<strong>and</strong>er maintain logistics visibility with the comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> the rest of the staff. The G-4<br />
(S-4) has staff coordinating responsibility of the transportation officer <strong>and</strong> the air mobility officer. The G-4<br />
(S-4) prepares Annex F (Sustainment) <strong>and</strong> Annex P (Host-Nation Support) to the operation order or<br />
operation plan. (Refer to FM 4-0 <strong>and</strong> FM 7-15 for more detailed information on the duties <strong>and</strong><br />
responsibilities of the G-4 [S-4].)<br />
Sustainment Plans <strong>and</strong> Operations (General)<br />
2-56. The G-4 (S-4) responsibilities for sustainment plans <strong>and</strong> operations (general) include, but are not<br />
limited to—<br />
� Developing the logistic plan to support operations (with the G-3 [S-3]).<br />
� Coordinating with the G-3 (S-3), G-2 (S-2), <strong>and</strong> engineer officer to requisition cataloged<br />
topographic foundation data <strong>and</strong> existing mission-specific data sets from the Defense Logistics<br />
Agency.<br />
� Coordinating with the G-3 (S-3) <strong>and</strong> G-1/AG (S-1) on equipping replacement personnel <strong>and</strong><br />
units.<br />
� Coordinating with the support unit comm<strong>and</strong>er on the current <strong>and</strong> future support capability of<br />
that unit.<br />
� Coordinating the selection of—<strong>and</strong> recommending to the G-3 (S-3)—main supply routes, <strong>and</strong><br />
logistic support areas (with the engineer officer).<br />
� Performing logistic preparation of the battlefield (with the support comm<strong>and</strong>).<br />
� Recommending comm<strong>and</strong> policy for collecting <strong>and</strong> disposing of excess property <strong>and</strong> salvage.<br />
Supply<br />
2-57. The G-4 (S-4) responsibilities for supply include, but are not limited to—<br />
� Determining supply requirements, except medical (with the support unit comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> the G-3<br />
[S-3]).<br />
� Coordinating all classes of supply except Class VIII (which is coordinated through medical<br />
supply channels).<br />
� Coordinating the requisition, acquisition, <strong>and</strong> storage of supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
maintenance of materiel records.<br />
� Recommending sustainment priorities <strong>and</strong> controlled supply rates.<br />
� Ensuring that accountability <strong>and</strong> security of supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment are adequate (with the<br />
provost marshal).<br />
� Calculating <strong>and</strong> recommending to the G-3 (S-3) basic <strong>and</strong> prescribed loads, <strong>and</strong> helping the G-3<br />
(S-3) determine required supply rates.<br />
Maintenance<br />
2-58. The G-4 (S-4) responsibilities for maintenance include, but are not limited to—<br />
� Monitoring <strong>and</strong> analyzing the equipment readiness status.<br />
� Determining maintenance workload requirements, less medical (with the support comm<strong>and</strong>).<br />
� Coordinating equipment recovery <strong>and</strong> evacuation operations (with the support comm<strong>and</strong>).<br />
� Determining maintenance time lines.<br />
Transportation<br />
2-59. The G-4 (S-4) responsibilities for transportation include, but are not limited to—<br />
