The leader of the Ger man corps of fered to col lab o rate withthe po lice dur <strong>in</strong>g the rest of the house-searches. They were alsojo<strong>in</strong>ed by Ro ma nian sol diers from the 13th In fan try Reg i ment andthe 22nd Ar til lery Reg i ment. All of them con t<strong>in</strong> ued to abuse theJews.When the com mander of the gar ri son, Col o nel Lupu , was <strong>in</strong> -formed of what was hap pen <strong>in</strong>g, Col o nel Captaru , county head,the Mil i tary Judge of the Di vi sion along with the com mand ers ofthe afore men tioned troops as well as rep re sen ta tives of the Cen -tral Po lice Sta tion went to the scene and ar rested the re bel liousLance-Ser geant and those (among the <strong>Romania</strong>ns) who had ac -tively taken part <strong>in</strong> the of fences; they were handed over to themil i tary judge of the di vi sion for <strong>in</strong> ves ti ga tion.This ac tion fully re-es tab lished peace <strong>in</strong> the dis trict. On the sameday at 22.00 hrs. the po lice force was <strong>in</strong> formed that mil i tary unitsof vi tal im por tance were be <strong>in</strong>g shot at.All lo cal mil i tary bod ies were <strong>in</strong> formed im me di ately, first of allGen eral Stavrescu , Com mander of the Di vi sion. The Com manderof the Gar ri son and the Mil i tary Judge went to the Cen tral Po liceSta tion to study the sit u a tion and re port to the Com mander of theDi vi sion.Pa trols, con sist <strong>in</strong>g of Gen darme mem bers and po lice men, whichwere sent out dur <strong>in</strong>g the day time, were im me di ately strength -ened.The con clu sion: <strong>in</strong> ci dents of shoot <strong>in</strong>g were be com <strong>in</strong>g more wide -spread <strong>in</strong> sev eral dis tricts of town, and <strong>in</strong> ar eas where Ger man orRo ma nian sol diers were march <strong>in</strong>g.Con se quently, a group of sol diers march <strong>in</strong>g down Las carCatargiu Street came un der fire, as did an other group march <strong>in</strong>gthrough Carol Street. Even though the shoot <strong>in</strong>g was very heavy,no body was <strong>in</strong> jured. All night long the army, the po lice and theGer mans searched the places from which shots were fired.
