This initial series of robotically guided UKA implantations provided significant improvement inthe post-operative function of patients in every functional measurement with only two revisionsto date, likely for improper patient selection. The introduction of new procedures andtechnologies in medicine is routinely fraught with issues associated with learning curves andunanticipated pitfalls. Because the explicit objectives of this novel technology are to optimizesurgical procedures to provide more safe and more reliable outcomes, these favorable resultsprovide the potential for significant improvements in orthopedic surgery.Saturday, October 9, 2010, 9:10-9:50Session A18: Complication ManagementRecurrence of Infection After a Two Stage Revision Protocol: Analysis ofRisk Factors.*Edoardo Crainz - U.O.C.POLICLINICO LE SCOTTE - Siena, ITALY*Email: edocrainz@alice.itABSTRACT: Two-stage revision is the gold standard in treatment of TKA infection. Severalrisk factor as the type of microbical flora, presence of general and local comorbidity and thetype of therapeutic protocol may influence the success rate of treatment. The aim of our study isto assess the impact of these factor on prognosis in two-stage revision in chronic periprostheticknee infection. We treated 38 knees in 37 patients, with an overall recurrence of 23,5% (9recurrences). Our series analisys shows that associated diseases can affect the final result, withrecurrence of infection in 12% of patients with one risk factor and in 33% of patients withassociation of comorbidity , wherass any infection occurred if less than three comorbidity werepresent. We also detect a statistically significative higher rate of recurrence in presence of localrisk factor and in infection sustained by methicillin-resistant germs or with poly-microbialflora. Presence of these factors significantly affect prognosis and should be taken into seriousconsideration in the decision process leading to appropriate treatment.Saturday, October 9, 2010, 9:10-9:50Session A18: Complication ManagementAn Efficient Algorithm for Minimizing Perioperative Blood Loss Duringfile:///E|/ISTA2010-Abstracts.htm[12/7/2011 3:15:47 PM]
