(a) The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade manages<br />

the <strong>Australia</strong>n Mission in Dili. This is expected to become an<br />

embassy when the UN-administered territory of East Timor<br />

becomes an independent State. In Taipei, the <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

Chamber of Commerce and Industry maintains an office, the<br />

staff of which includes employees on leave without pay or<br />

seconded from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade,<br />

Austrade, the Department of Education, Training and Youth<br />

Affairs, and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural<br />

Affairs. (b) To be opened in the second half of 2000.<br />
