The value of Australian aquaculture production
also increased in 1998–99, by $97.8m (19%)
(table 16.11). Aquaculture accounted for 30% of
the total value of Australian fisheries production
in 1998–99, up slightly from its share of 27% in
the previous year. The increase in the value of
aquaculture production was mainly due to a
$79.5m (91%) rise in the value of tuna
production, with salmon and prawn increasing
$8.1m (13%) and $7.8m (22%) respectively.
