Price index of materials used in
building other than house building
The index for materials used in building other
than house building rose in 1999–2000 by just
under one index point (table 20.18). This increase
in the average reflected rises in all capital cities.
between 1998–99 and 1999–2000 in most of the
selected materials components. The exceptions
were ready mixed concrete (a decrease of
2.7 index points), structural steel (down 1.4 index
points) and reinforcing steel bar fabric and mesh
(down 5.4 index points).
Table 20.19 presents the composition of the
index in terms of the materials used. This shows
that the rise in the index reflected increases
