Prior to 1 July 2000, a third form of Parenting
Payment, known as Basic Parenting Payment, was
available to partnered parents. It was income
tested only on the income of the recipient, and
was not asset tested. From 1 July 2000 this form
of the payment was subsumed by Family Tax
Benefit Part B.
To qualify for the Parenting Payment, a person
must:

care for a dependent child or children aged
under 16 years;
have income and assets under certain
amounts; and
have been an Australian resident for at least
two years, or be a refugee, or have become a
lone parent while an Australian resident.
