disputes involved just under 114,000 employees
and resulted in the loss of over 184,000 working
days (table 19.9). Compared with 1998, this
represented a substantial rise (by 66%) in the
number of disputes. This is the second successive
manufacturing industry has risen. The number of
employees involved in industrial disputes in
compared with 24% in 1998. Manufacturing
industry employees involved in industrial
in disputes during 1999, a marked increase on the
12% recorded for 1998 and slightly higher than
the 21% experienced in 1997. Working days lost
due to manufacturing industrial disputes
accounted for 28% of all working days lost during
1999, representing a substantial increase on the
18% share recorded in 1998, but only slightly
higher than the 1997 share (27%).
