From 1 April 1993, all service pensioners became<br />

eligible for ‘fringe benefits’, provided by the<br />

Commonwealth Government, which include<br />

medical and hospital treatment, pharmaceutical<br />

benefits and the payment of a telephone<br />

allowance.<br />

A number of supplementary benefits are also<br />

available under the sub-program. These include:<br />

<br />

<br />

rent assistance;<br />

additional pension in respect of dependent<br />

children;<br />

remote area allowance;<br />

guardian allowance;<br />

bereavement payment; and<br />

pharmaceutical allowance.<br />

Table 7.20 shows the total number of pensions as<br />

at 30 June 2000, and Table 7.21 shows the<br />

number of pensions and annual expenditure for<br />

the years 1992–2000.<br />
