toxins such as creatinine, uric acid, phenol, indoles, middle molecular weight molecules <strong>and</strong> inorganic phosphate <strong>and</strong><br />

water absorbents are provided. Also provided are methods <strong>of</strong> allevating symptoms <strong>of</strong> uremia in a patient which comprises<br />

administering orally to a patient suffering from uremia a microencapsulated <strong>and</strong>/or enteric-coated composition.<br />
