(57) Abstract : A new single stage process for the preparation of absorbent cotton from short staple cotton fibre waste by
using a single stage scouring and bleaching process using 0.1% to 1.5% NaOH and 0.05% to 0.4% of a bleaching agent in
an open vessel at a material to liquor ratio of 1:30, soaking the material and washing it with hot and cold water followed
by neutralization in 0.1% acetic acid.
