(57) Abstract : A new single stage process for the preparation <strong>of</strong> absorbent cotton from short staple cotton fibre waste by<br />

using a single stage scouring <strong>and</strong> bleaching process using 0.1% to 1.5% NaOH <strong>and</strong> 0.05% to 0.4% <strong>of</strong> a bleaching agent in<br />

an open vessel at a material to liquor ratio <strong>of</strong> 1:30, soaking the material <strong>and</strong> washing it with hot <strong>and</strong> cold water followed<br />

by neutralization in 0.1% acetic acid.<br />
